Vice Principal
Ms. Covington is a graduate of a well-known HBCU, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with a minor in Secondary English Education. She also holds two Master’s degrees, one from the University of Arizona in Reading and Literacy and another from William Paterson University in Educational Leadership. Ms. Covington remains hopeful in completing her Doctoral work within the year; she continues to remain excited about her research in Cultural Pedagogy and Sustainability in Urban School Districts.
As an educator with over eighteen years of teaching and school leadership experience, Ms. Covington remains excited about the work in education. She is certified in the following areas: Pre-K-3 Grade, K-6, Special Education, Supervisor, and Principal. Additionally, she holds the following Georgia certifications: (K-5), Literacy Specialist Endorsement and Special Education Endorsement. To date, she has taught all grades ranging from K-8 and has dedicated 13 years of teaching and leadership to Newark, New Jersey’s Public Charter Schools.
Currently Ms. Covington is a sitting Board Member of the East Orange Community Day School Nursery, A Proud Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (North Jersey Alumnae Chapter), Bethune Grand Chapter-Order of Eastern Star-Chapter#257 (Jersey City) , NAACP, Kappa Delta Pi National Education Honor Society. In 2017, Ms. Covington was nominated as the RFK Urban Educator (Newark) through Schools that Can. In addition, she is an Emerging Fellow (New Leaders Foundation) – Cohort 2016 Newark, NJ. She also serves as an Adjunct Instructor at Essex County Community College, in the Continuing Education Department.
