Theater Arts Teacher
Sahirah Johnson is a professional actor and singer. Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, she graduated from Newark’s Arts High School and continued her education at Howard University (Music Education). Sahirah is a current union member of The Actors Equity Association and she has been training and sharing her craft with children throughout her professional performing career. While on The National Tour of the musical “Rent,” Sahirah would take time out to teach classes in acting and singing to children of all ages. She taught “Master Classes” in Alaska, Detroit, Washington DC, and Canada. Upon her return, she was cast as the Storyteller and event co-coordinator for the Shadowbox Theatre in Brooklyn, NY. She was a performer and a narrator of the Musical Shows and afterwards she escorted the children on a tour throughout the theatre.
Sahirah was a lead teacher for the Newark Symphony Hall Summer Arts program where she taught Musical Theatre. She was also a performer and workshop facilitator for Arts Horizon, an “Education through the Arts Program,” and she teaches Drama at Newark Collegiate Academy.
Sahirah believes that teaching children how to express themselves through the arts is a very vital part of their overall education. She has a passionate commitment to student and community development and has always been committed to sharing her professional experiences with her students.
