Music Teaching Artist
Lisette Santiago is a Grammy award winning musician, and a music educator from Brooklyn, N.Y. A graduate of LaGuardia High School of Music and the Performing Arts and Columbia University, Lisette began singing at an early age and was accepted into the Children’s Metropolitan Company at the age of nine. Lisette later went on to study drum kit and percussion and is versed in Latin and Brazilian percussion- She is recognized as one of the first of a handful of women in the United States specializing in the Afro- Cuban, batá drum tradition. As an active educator for the past fifteen years, she has taught general music, and has given workshops throughout the US, Europe and Latin America. Lisette currently teaches band percussion at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and has been happily teaching general music at Link Community Charter School for 6 years.
