The Heart of America Foundation, with funding from Capital One, provided Link with a Digital Library READesign this month. Link received a multitude of resources to help enhance teaching tools for staff and learning platforms for students including iPads and E-Readers, storage carts, Scholastic Leveled Readers, a Follett Library (an electronic library), Storia e-books and books for the library. Additionally, each student was given a set of books to take home for their personal libraries. This donation to Link was in keeping with the mission of Heart of America to create vibrant learning environments for children, engaging volunteers in acts of service and encouraging the pursuit of education by providing children in need with the tools to read, succeed and make a difference.
On Thursday, September 17th, volunteers from the Foundation and Capital One came to Link to set up the new devices and prepare the books for students. Additionally, they engaged with 5th grade students in an interactive read aloud activity and some remained to have lunch with a group of 7th and 8th grade students. The day concluded with a “ribbon cutting” ceremony to symbolize the gift of these wonderful resources that are so important to creating an engaging and exciting learning environment that supports our students’ success.
