What a great celebration of a milestone in Link Community School’s history – the official ribbon cutting for our new home on beautiful, sunny Sunday, April 29th followed by a great block party!
After brunch with our guests, Head of School Maria Pilar Paradiso and Board Chair Wendy Lacey, welcomed guests and thanked everyone for their support for the move. Maria expressed appreciation to the Board of Trustees for “working tirelessly, under the leadership of Wendy Lacey, to provide a building we will call home for many years.” She thanked Ed Reitz, advisory council member, for negotiating the lease; and Joe DiCara, trustee, and Leslie Mitchell Baynes, Link’s head of finance and operations, for “transforming the building.” Then the assembled guests went outside for the ribbon cutting. Father Andres from San Columba Roman Catholic Church, our neighbor on Pennsylvania Avenue, blessed our new home. Sister Viven Jennings, O.P., one of the founding Dominican Sisters of Project Link, now known as Link Community School, joined Maria and Wendy at the door to cut the ribbon.
Guests – trustees, donors, partners, parents, students, alumni, Link staff and our neighbors – enjoyed a wonderful block party, with plenty of delicious food, fun activities for children and fantastic music by the Najeli Soul Band. Sahirah Johnson, Link’s performing arts teacher and mother to Thomas Johnson, Jr. ’10 was lead vocalist, with her husband, Thomas Sr. on drums.
A new phase in the life of Link Community School has now begun!
