Link is proud to announce that Maya Reid ’11 and Jabari Mallory ’11 presented their winning essays, written while students at Link, to the Prudential Black Leadership Forum (BLF) Conference in East Brunswick, NJ on November 17, 2011.
The BLF offered an essay contest as a part of the LearnDoEarn, a work readiness and mentoring program they provided to all Link 8th graders. The Forum’s leadership selected the winners, and honored the students’ efforts by inviting them (with their families) to their annual conference.
Writing on topics supplied by the BLF, Maya reflected back on her life choices and accomplishments in her essay, “When I’m Eighty,” and Jabari proposed some societal changes in his essay, “Improving the World.”
BLF incoming Community Outreach Coordinators Diane Sutton and Tanetha Ross, along with outgoing Coordinator, Vernay Simmons, awarded iPads to both Maya and Jabari after they presented their essays to the conference attendees.
