Link recently hosted a reunion dinner party for its Class of 2020 to celebrate their graduation from high school. The event was a wonderful opportunity for them to reconnect with each other and with Link teachers and staff, reminiscing about cherished memories and sharing high school stories before embarking on their college or employment adventures. Link had been hosting this event for many years for high school graduates until the pandemic, and we were thrilled to revive it now in honor of these alumni. The Class of 2020, unfortunately, missed out on the usual Link graduation festivities—the 8th grade dance, graduates’ breakfast, and the graduation ceremony—when the world shut down in 2020.Despite the challenges they faced with the pandemic, they showed remarkable resilience, and were so excited to be able to be together again! Congratulations Class of 2020!

5th Grade learns about nature at Meadowlands Environment Center
Our 5th graders enjoyed a recent trip to the Meadowlands Environment Center. They learned about decomposers and how trash can be reduced by recycling and composting! They also went outdoors and caught insects including worms, roly-poly bugs, centipedes, beetles, slugs, etc. and then observed them under microscopes at the science center.
Grade 2 explores rocks at Franklin Mineral Museum
Our 2nd grade scholars enjoyed their trip to the Franklin Mineral Mine and Museum recently. They have been studying rocks and minerals in science class and a trip to the museum in Sussex County, NJ expanded their learning greatly. Students toured through the amazing exhibits at the museum and explored the site’s mineral mine. They discovered so many different rocks and minerals found both in New Jersey and around the world. Scholars collected rock samples, some of which fluoresce under UV light, and brought home many samples to start or add to their own rock collections. The trip was a great complement to their science curriculum.
K-2 Poets Perform!
Students in the Lower House (K-2) have been studying the rhyme and rhythm of poetry all month and they participated in a Poetry Slam where they recited original poems and some favorite poems. Families attended the event and were thrilled with the student work! We are proud of our young poets for their wonderful efforts!
Link in the news for academic performance
Link is proud to share an article from Newark Patch on April 29, 2024, which highlighted Link as one of four public charter schools in Newark that scored well on the annual NJ Performance Report. The article states that Link “exceeded standards” on student growth set by the Department of Education’s accountability framework. Click here to read the entire article.
Family Game Night was a great success!
Over 100 participants – students and their families – had a wonderful time at the K-2 Family Game Night recently. They participated in a number of games and activities revolving around math. There were six stations for games, including in the new outdoor classroom where families played weather bingo. (A great introduction of the new space to our families!) Other stations included measurement, money, geometry, movement to numbers, and more. There was an “estimation jar” where participants could guess the number of rocks in a jar. One parent came within 2 of the actual total number of rocks in the jar. There were raffles of gift cards, books, and packs of playing cards. And families enjoyed dinner and time to socialize with each other. Thanks to Link’s K-2 staff for a great evening of fun!
