Here are three students’ submssions to the Young Writers contest this fall:
Sheep In Wolf’s Clothing
There I was, concealing myself among the brawny, sharp-toothed, bloodthirsty creatures. My bones were shuddering, I was almost frozen in fear. I couldn’t keep this up forever, but if I didn’t camouflage myself, inexplicably terrible things would happen to me. The others were brutally tortured, eaten and killed for entertainment, it was traumatising. It was only me, myself and I. My escape was futile, getting caught was a dangerous possibility. I’ve had nightmares about being found. They’ve been driving me insane. I had to leave, or at least I had to try. But what would the outside world be like? ~ Nyla Gabriel ’24

We have to leave now. They’re going to catch us and if they do, we’re dead meat. They already captured most of our class. “We have to jump out the window or they will get us too” I said breathing heavily as I hesitated, then, I just jumped out. “AGH!” I yelled as I hit the ground. We heard loud stomps, loud yells, as Keres arrived. He swung his huge saw, cutting the entire school in half. I just barely dodged, but then, I saw a cut on my chest, as I collapsed. It healed?, what is… this? This power? ~ Elizabeth ’25
Pandemonium: The World At Dusk
The distorted surroundings; rumbled buildings, fires wreaking havoc, and blood on every street, caused a once beautiful city to look incinerated. Tyler’s hands were dirty and bloodied, but not of his blood. Pondering at the mass of bodies, decimated and crushed he felt beyond euphoric. He danced amid the chaos of people who were sprinting with fear, and of deceased bodies. The war of the continents had been a terror for everyone, but for Tyler, it was a holiday. Fiercely, he slayed many who ran, devouring their organs and ingested their blood. He became a demon who relished in purgatory. ~ Emmanuel ’24
