One hundred thirty golfers braved the heat to hit the links at Metedeconk National Golf Club for the12th annual Link Community School Golf Outing on Monday, July 22, 2013. This year’s event honored Link trustee and friend David Ferry for his many years of dedicated service to Link – its mission and its students. The funds raised at this event will supplement the school’s operating budget for 2013-14.
Although a thunderstorm cropped up in the afternoon, golfers had a great day on Metedeconk’s challenging course. At the reception Andrew Lacey, Link’s board chair, welcomed guests to this annual event, and honoree David Ferry spoke, mentioning that in his fifteen year association with Link he has “received more from the school” than he has given. John Brown ’05 addressed the group, explaining how his experience at Link prepared him for higher education, and inspired him to pursue a Masters Degree in Urban Education (The College of New Jersey) and a career as an instructor in mathematics.
The event culminated in a hugely successful Live Auction, with Adam Rohdie, Link trustee, serving as auctioneer. Guests bid to win golf outings at exclusive clubs such as Baltusrol Golf Club, Trump National Golf Club, Due Process Stable Golf Course, and Ridgewood Country Club.
We are grateful to all who contributed to the success of the12th annual golf outing. To our Benefit Committee, trustees, event sponsors and golfers, a big THANK YOU for helping Link – for partnering with Link to ensure that the youth of Newark and the surrounding area have access to the outstanding education that Link provides.
