Eugenia Cooley is a Reading Specialist for 5th and 6th grades. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, a Master's degree in Education with Reading Specialization, and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership. She also has New Jersey certifications in the following areas: K-6 Elementary Education, K-12 Reading Specialist, K-12 Supervisor, and a K-12 Principal CE.
Eugenia’s career began as a substitute teacher in Hillside Public Schools where she developed a desire to teach and entered the Alternate Route Program at Saint Peter's University. Teaching full time in the district since 2006, Eugenia spent time developing young minds in Kindergarten, 3rd, 5th, and 6th grades.  She is a passionate advocate for all learners and a strong supporter of equitable literacy opportunities. In her previous role, she has remained a leading model of how to establish rapport, develop genuine relationships, and maintain connections with students and families. Always in love with reading, she spearheaded programs within her classroom and district that are still in place today, such as World Read Aloud Day and classroom lending libraries and bookbags.
As a longtime EdCamp participant and New Jersey Literacy Association (NJLA) board member, Eugenia has facilitated professional development throughout the state. Some of the topics she has presented on are Using Technology to Enhance Reading Comprehension & Engagement and Culturally Responsive Literacy Classrooms. Eugenia is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and is often engaged with community service projects with the organization. She also loves going for long walks with her Yorkie, Egypt, watching basketball, crocheting, or catching a good movie.
