FAQS ABOUT LINK'S ENROLLMENT PROCESS

What is the Newark Common App?
The Newark Common App is a centralized application, lottery, and waitlist system available to all families seeking access to excellent educational options in Newark. This system ensures fairness and transparency in distributing school placements, promoting equal access to educational opportunities.

The Newark Common App is not associated with Newark Enrolls.

When can families apply?
The Newark Common App system opens for enrollment on December 1, 2023. You will need to register on the site.

What is the deadline for applying?
The deadline to apply is March 11, 2024.

Can I apply after the deadline?
Yes, on March 18, 2024 the Newark Common App will open again and you can apply for Phase 2 of the Newark Common App process. Phase 2 is a rolling application process. Phase 2 applicants will be matched after all Phase 1 applications have been processed. If there are no seats available, Phase 2 applicants will be put on the Waitlist.

Can only Newark residents apply?
Residents from Newark, Orange, East Orange, and Irvington may apply to Link Community Charter School through the Newark Common App.

How do I ensure that my child is selected for Link Community Charter School?
Ranking Link Community Charter School as your first choice on the application gives you the best chance for placement. If your child is not placed at Link, your child will be offered an alternative school and added to Link’s waitlist.

What if the child I am enrolling has siblings at Link?
The Newark Common App system gives preference to siblings so they are able to attend the same school. You must make certain to indicate on the application that you have another child at Link.

How are students selected?
A randomized computer lottery is conducted to determine placements.

When will I know if my child is selected for Link?
On April 8, 2024, families will receive an email and/or text from the Newark Common App. The email will tell you how to accept the placement your child has received.

What happens if my child is placed on Link's Waitlist?
Your child will be given a spot on our Wait List if not selected in the lottery. The Wait List will be used to fill spaces vacated by students who decide not to pursue a placement at Link or who leave Link during the school year. You will be contacted if an opening occurs.
