 FAQS ABOUT LINK'S ENROLLMENT PROCESS

Here is information about the enrollment and lottery processes at Link. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Greg Silver, director of admissions, at 973.642.0529 or gsilver@linkschool.org.

Who can apply for enrollment at Link?
Link will serve students in Kindergarten, grade 1, and grades 5 through 8 in 2022-2023.  Grade 2 will be added in the fall of 2023.* Students from Newark, East Orange, Irvington and Orange have enrollment priority under the charter granted the school by the NJ Department of Education, as do siblings of current students.

*Link will expand to K-8, adding one grade level each year until at full capacity in 2025.

What is the age requirement for Kindergarten?
Students enrolling in Kindergarten must be 5 years of age by October 1 of the year of enrollment.

How are students selected?
Students are selected by Lottery, with the first lottery held no later than March 15th.  Lottery dates will publicized on the school's website calendar. It is important that families submit the Enrollment Application prior to the lottery date to have the best chance of gaining seats for their children.

When is the Enrollment Applications available?
The Enrollment application is available as of October 15 of each year.

How do I obtain an Enrollment Application?

  • Apply online! Scroll to the top of this screen for the online application
  • Download the application from this site. See button above.
  • Visit the school to pick up an application.
  • Call the school and we will mail one to you.
  • Visit the school and pick one up in our Main Office. (COVID protocols in place.)

Where do I return the application?

  • When you click on "Submit" on the online enrollment application, it goes directly to the Director of Admissions.
  • Return the paper enrollment application via mail or in person to Link Community Charter School, 23 Pennsylvania Avenue, Newark, NJ 07114 (COVID protocols in place.)
  • FAX it to 973.642.1978
  • Scan and email it to admissions@linkschool.org

If my child is currently attending Link, do I need to complete an enrollment form for next year?
In the spring, you will need to update your family information and notify the school that you wish to re-enroll your child.

If my child is currently attending Link, will we need to participate in the lottery?
No, current students do not participate in the lottery as they are given preference.

If I have a student currently attending Link, how do I enroll his/her sibling?
Priority is given to the siblings of current students. We define sibling as a brother or sister living in the same house as a current student. For a sibling to be considered, parents must complete an application. It is important that the application for a sibling be completed and returned to Link before the first lottery in February.

Can I apply even if we live in a town other than those served by your charter (Newark, Irvington, Orange and East Orange)?
Yes, you are welcome to submit enrollment applications. Your child will be considered for enrollment if the pool of students from the towns we serve under our charter is exhausted.

What is the deadline for the enrollment form?
The deadline for submission for the first lottery is March 15.

When will the lottery be held?
Lottery dates wil be posted on the school's website calendar. The first is generally in mid-March.

When will I know the results of the lottery?
You will be informed of your child’s selection in the lottery immediately if you attend the lottery, which is open to the public, or by email directly after it takes place.

What if my child is not selected during the lottery?
Your child will be given a spot on our Wait List if not selected in the lottery. We use the Wait List to fill spaces vacated by students who decide not to pursue at placement at Link or who leave Link during the school year. The Wait List is kept active until June of the following year.

Can I visit the school prior to applying for enrollment?
Families and their children are strongly encouraged to visit Link. (COVID protocols in place.)

We generally hold several Open Houses for prospective families. We will post the dates for Open Houses on our website each year. If you are unable to attend any of the scheduled open houses but would like to visit us, please email Mr. Silver, director of admissions, at gsilver@linkschool.org to schedule a visit.

What do I need to do after I complete the enrollment form and deliver it to Link ?
You will wait for the lottery and if your application is among those selected to fill the available seats you will be notified. At a designated time, you will be asked to demonstrate that your child is enrolled in the public schools in the town you reside in, provide a birth certificate, proof of residency, and present us with a transfer card/form showing your child is being transferred to Link Community Charter School from the board of education in your district of residence.
