During the Nature’s Creations elective taught by volunteer Julie Aiello, students designed and crafted their own individual small occasional table. The purpose of the elective was to expose students to the variety in nature and to provide a unique craft experience.
To decorate their tables, students developed a theme which incorporated animals, landscape and climate. They selected pictures from National Geographic magazines and glued them to MDF board – a recycled cardboard and wood material and then covered the tabletop with Plexiglas to preserve the decoration. For this project students learned how to use some basic tools including a screw driver and a drill.
During a recent Morning Circle, the students explained the process of table making and showed off their craftsmanship! This was a great way for students to explore their art, nature, and construction in this fun and productive eight week elective class.
