Link’s 6th and 7th grade scholars experienced an intensive but exciting week of project-based learning in STEM recently. Using curriculum from i2Learning, our sixth graders explored the intersection of art and technology with kinetic sculptures – dimensional art from any medium that moves naturally or is powered manually or by machine. Among the sculptures they made were simple mobiles, marble runs, and gear-based automata. Seventh grade students learned about ecosystems and worked in small teams to investigate negative changes happening in a fictional ecosystem, Loon Lake, and engineered ways to remedy the problem. Through project-based learning, not only do students learning something new academically, they also build their cooperative learning, critical thinking, reasoning, and communication skills.
