The excitement, enthusiasm, and energy of the crowd at this year’s A Taste of Newark benefit on Wednesday, November 15th at NJPAC hosted by Link Education Partners was amazing! Over 400 guests gathered on the stage at NJPAC on Wednesday evening to celebrate the school’s 48 year legacy of successfully serving the youth of Newark and to honor Cathy and Dave Ferry for their commitment and support of Link.
The evening’s program was very inspiring. Head of School Maria Pilar Paradiso shared the phenomenal progress Link scholars have made academically over the past three years, since the school converted to a public charter school. Alumna Shanika Audige expressed, poignantly, that attending the Link changed her life, gave her hope, have her inspiration, and gave her purpose. Link students performed powerfully, showing how the emphasis in arts – which you support – helps students express themselves and build character.
Mary Ball Cappio, former Link director of finance, introduced Dave and Cathy Ferry as major change makers for Link, noting their ardent support and passionate advocacy of the school over two decades. And, finally, Dave Ferry, spoke to the compelling reason for his and Cathy’s involvement in the school – their desire to help level the playing field so that all children have the opportunity for an excellent education and how Link delivers fulfills that.
The proceeds from this major Link Education Partners fundraiser go toward programming for students (arts, elective classes, outdoor adventure, field trips, and more), staff professional development, and facility improvement and maintenance at Link Community charter School.
