The Wednesday lunch group of 10 eighth grade girls, mentored by Link trustee Patricia Devine-Harms, visited Sika Corporation in Lyndhurst, Montclair State University in Montclair and The Chocolate Path in Montclair on March 30, 2011, meeting with professionals and learning more about career opportunities.
At Sika, the girls met with Ms. Ninoska Garcia, human resources manager; Ms. Beatriz Manzanedo, research and development lab manager; and Ms. Christine Morey, process engineer who spoke about their education and career path. The girls took a tour of the company’s Research and Development Lab. They learned about cement, a major product of this global specialty chemicals and industrial material company, and saw how it is tested for strength and durability. At Montclair State, they first met with Ms. Shivaun Gaines, director of government relations who then introduced them to a number of other professionals at the college including Ms.Summer Jones, director of technical support services, Dean James Harris, associate dean of students and Ms. Julie Fleming, assistance director of student involvement. Each person shared information about his/her career and job at the university.
At The Chocolate Path students learned about small business ownership. Ms. Susan Fine, the owner, explained her decision to go into business for herself and how she operates her store and online business.
A great day of inspiration for our Link young ladies!
